Avelox (Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride)

Uses
Avelox is a trading name of the active ingredient Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride. This ingredient has an antimicrobial action and is used during the antibacterial therapy.

Avelox is an antibiotic of the 4th generation of fluoroquinolones and has a broad therapeutic activity. The active ingredient Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride penetrates directly into the cell, breaks the processes of the replication of the DNA-hydrase, and this leads to the death of bacteria because of the broken cells.

Recommendations
According to the results of the medical studies, Avelox begins acting quickly within several hours after the use of the first therapeutic dose. Therefore, the pathogenic agents cannot release a great number of toxins immediately after the effect of the drug on the cells of bacteria, and so the disease symptoms are not increased, and a patient feels better in a couple of days.

Another advantage of Avelox is a poor resistance of the pathogenic microflora. The medical studies have not found out a cross-resistance to other antibiotics. If a resistance to Avelox is developed, it will be slow and during a long-term use of the drug in high doses. Therefore, Avelox does not lose its efficiency even during the regular application.

Avelox shows an activity as to rather many acid-resistance gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, anaerobes, atypical agents (chlamydia, mycoplasma, and others).

This antibiotic shows a high activity during the treatment of the infections of the upper and lower respiratory tracts, infections of the skin and soft tissues, infections of the abdominal cavity organs, and organs of the urinary system.

In what dose is Avelox used?
A standard dose of Avelox is 400 mg per day (1 pill) for adults and children over 16 years old. The pills should be used at the same time, every day, with a glass of water. A type of an infection does not impact the dosage regimen but influences on the length of the antibacterial treatment.

- If bronchitis episodes, Avelox 400 mg is used within 5 days
- If pneumonia, Avelox 400 mg is used for 7 to 10 days (the injections of Avelox are prescribed within the first 3-5 days, and then the pills are taken for 5 days)
- If severe infections of the skin and soft tissues, Avelox 400 mg is used for 5 to 14 days depending on the disease symptoms
- If infectious diseases of the small pelvic organs, genitals and abdominal cavity organs, Avelox is used for 2 weeks

Aged patients and patients with diseases of the kidneys do not adjust the dose.

Precautions
- Children and teenagers under 16 years old do not take Avelox. The influence of this antibiotic on the child’s body is not examined
- Before using Avelox, make sure that you are not pregnant. The use of Avelox is prohibited during pregnancy because it enters the placenta barrier
- Avelox is not prescribed during heart failure, bradycardia, severe arrhythmia, intensive liver pathologies
- If you are taking hypotensive, antiarrhythmic drugs or products to maintain the work of the cardiovascular system, consult a cardiologist before using Avelox

Common side effects
If a patient does not have contraindications, Avelox does not cause side effects. The main cause of the side effect of Avelox is an overdose, or any chronic/acute pathologies of the body increasing the sensitivity to the Moxifloxacin ingredient.

The most common side effects of Avelox appearing in about 3% of patients are headache, dizziness, disorder of the heart rate, stomachache, and increased level of bilirubin. The development of the side effects of the light or moderate severity do not require a cessation of the use of Avelox.
