If a person has gone through a rough phase of life or is suffering from depression, he usually complains of insomnia. Now one should not confuse a few nights of sleeplessness to insomnia. If you are suffering from this problem of sleeplessness over a period of time then it surely is insomnia. Though insomnia might seem like a simple problem of not being able to sleep but truly it is much more than that. Insomnia is a fore runner to an array of problems. It is simply put, if you are not able to sleep properly through many nights all together, then you are unable to feel fit through the day, obviously you will feel tired and fatigued, will lose focus and concentration of what you are doing. All this leads to stress and anxiety because you are unable to perform your best. More over because of lack of sleep your basic nature is also altered, you become irritated. There is rapid loss of weight. If the problem of insomnia persists untreated for a longer time untreated then the patient might slip into emotional disorders like depression.

There are few types or stages of insomnia. There is temporary insomnia when you are unable to sleep due to some recent change in your life like an emotional turmoil or something like a jet lag (traveling into multiple time zones). This type of insomnia can be easily cured by taking few sleeping pills. But, if this insomnia occurs over a period of type then it is of more permanent type. In such cases insomnia is caused due to breathing problem during sleeping or if the patient has problems like sleep walking or nightmares etc. if you are forced to make frequent trips to bathroom for urination like in diabetic patients then your sleep is interrupted and you also suffer from insomnia

Insomnia can become serious if not treated properly can cause brain problem and this can be fatal. In case insomnia is inherited by the concerned patient by one of his parents then it is untreatable to some extent. one needs to take care of the problem of insomnia from the onset itself so that it does not affect the coming generation

There are many natural ways to treat insomnia. Check your diet and especially avoid heavy meals at night. Coffee, alcohol and smoking is a strict no-no for insomnia patients. Practice yoga or do some exercise. Go for morning walks or evening walks in fresh air and that is very helpful for insomniac patients. Try to de stress your self, unwind and relax, stop thinking about the problem and enjoy life. Follow a regime .do what you enjoy, may be a listening to good music before bed might just help.

Many a times we do not realize but insomnia can be caused as a side effect of medicine. In such a scenario, meet your doctor and get a substitute for the medicine you are taking. For severe cases of insomnia, doctors will take you through some tests and then prescribe drugs. You need to have patience because insomnia cannot be cured quickly, it will take some time. But yes, definitely it is curable.
